Different forms of Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy and Counselling?

Hypnotherapy and Counselling combines both these forms of therapy to create a powerful and comprehensive approach. The counselling phase (psychotherapeutic techniques may be used) opens the pathway that a professional Hypnotherapist will follow with techniques within hypnotherapy. Therefore, it is important for a Hypnotherapist to have a sound knowledge and understanding of counselling and psychotherapeutic principles and techniques. This provides the Hypnotherapist with the flexibility and freedom necessary to address a wide range of issues, and meet the specific needs of each client.

What is Analytical Hypnotherapy?

Analytical Hypnotherapy (also known as Hypnoanalysis) is used for establishing whether a specific cause or event has given rise to the issue a person is experiencing e.g. a phobia of flying. There are several techniques that may be used. Once the specific cause or event has been established the Hypnotherapist then moves to the hypno-resolution phase of therapy. This phase works to resolve the issue that the client is experiencing.

What is Suggestion Therapy?

Suggestion Therapy is a simple and effective way to produce successful outcomes whilst in hypnosis. There are many forms of suggestion therapy that may achieve change or reinforce other work done in therapy. It is important that the Hypnotherapist has a sound knowledge of counselling skills and their skillful use of them to formulate effective suggestions for each individual client.

What is Cognitive Behaviour Hypnotherapy?

Cognitive Behaviour Hypnotherapy uses the methods of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. A form of therapy which focuses on replacing destructive negative self-statements and patterns of behaviour, with those that are constructive that produce positive self-statements and behaviours. Combining Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and hypnosis speeds up the whole process.

What is Ericksonian Hypnotherapy?

Ericksonian hypnotherapy was developed by the late Milton Erickson. His techniques used stories and analogies to give suggestions outside the conscious awareness of the client. However, direct approaches may also be used.
